Know Your Rights

Navigating the stress of a collision is challenging enough without the added confusion of understanding your accident insurance. Below, we’ve compiled answers to frequently asked questions about insurance policies to help make the process easier for you.

  • If you have rental car coverage and were not at fault for the accident, you may be able to seek reimbursement from your insurance company, or if another driver was responsible, from their insurance.

If you do not have rental car coverage and were at fault for the accident, you generally have no grounds for reimbursement. However, if the other driver is liable, you can usually seek reimbursement from their insurance company.

  • Contact your agent or insurance provider for assistance. If someone else is responsible for the damages, be sure to also reach out to their insurance agent or company. The assigned adjuster will provide guidance on the next steps and any additional actions you may need to take.

  • Report the details of the accident to your insurance provider, including the time, location, and circumstances. Provide the names and addresses of those injured and any potential witnesses. Cooperate fully with the investigation process. Lastly, ensure your insurance company has the authorization to obtain necessary documents, medical records, and other relevant information.

  • While we guarantee the quality of our own work, the insurance company does not have the legal authority to guarantee the work of a third party.

  • It depends on the situation. If you were at fault but have comprehensive or collision insurance, your insurance company will cover the costs minus your deductible. If the other party was at fault, their insurance should cover the expenses.

  • If you disagree with the appraisal, check the "Appraisal Clause" in your policy. It allows both you and the insurance company to select an appraiser you both agree on. If an agreement can't be reached, a third-party "Umpire" can be brought in to resolve the difference.
